CONVERSION AXLES
CONVERSION AXLES FOR CONVERTING A BIKE INTO A TRIKE. These   axles   simply   fit   into   the   bike   dropouts.   The   telescopic   stainless   steel   seat   stays   are   fixed   to a   seat   clamp   to   suit   your   bike   and   supplied   with   the   axle.   The   axle   is   supplied   with   a   pair   of   hubs with   spoke   drillings   to   suit   the   wheel   rims   you   want   to   use.   (Standard   bike   wheels   are   not compatible   with   trike   axles).   All   axles   have   Trykit   2   wheel   drive   cassettes   fitted.   These   cassettes   are   designed   and   made   by Trykit   and   incorporate   six   drive   pawls   and   are   supported   on   two   sealed   ball   bearings.   They   are extremely   reliable   and   fully   serviceable.   Cassette   sprockets   are   not   included   in   the   prices   but   can be   supplied The   rear   gear   mech   on   the   bike   is   simply   transferred   to   the   bracket   on   the   axle   and   fitted   with   a longer gear cable. A longer chain is also required, about 7 links extra.                                click   on   pictures   to   enlarge       There   are   two   types   of   axle.   The   standard axle   as   in   the   left   picture,   and   the   disc   brake axle   in   the   lower   picture.   The   axles   are   75cm wide.   The   measurement   is   over   the   ends   of the hubs, not the track width. The   hubs   are   drilled   to   suit   the   rims   you   want to   use.   The   axles   drive   both   wheels   via   special cassette   body   which   will   accept   any   Shimano cassette.   The   sprockets   are   not   included   but can   be   supplied   and   fitted.             The     disc     brake     axles     are     similar     to     the standard     axle     but     have     mechanical     disc brakes   fitted.   The   hubs   and   disc   carriers   are separate,   so   that   the   wheels   can   be   removed without   disturbing   the   brakes.   A   central   allen bolt   secures   each   wheel   to   the   drive   shaft   on all   axles.   The   drive   shafts   run   on   four   sealed ball   bearings.   The   cassette   body   also   has   two sealed    ball    bearings.    These    axles    are    very high   quality   and   easily   serviced.   The   brakes   are   operated   by   one   standard   brake   lever   and   connected      together   by   a   long   straddle wire   to   each   calliper.   This   balances   the   braking   equally   to   both   wheels.   These   disc   brake   axles   are   used   regularly   by   para-cyclists   racing   in   UCI   events.   UCI   regulations state   that   tricycles   must   have   brakes   on   both   wheels   and   linked   together.
